Ba Be - Ban Gioc
Ba Be National Park, sometimes referred to as Ba Be lakes, is located in Bac Kan province. This beautiful region covers more than 23000 hectares and boasts waterfall, rivers, deep valleys, lakes and caves set amid towering peaks. It's a tropical rainforest area with over 400 named plant species and 300 wildlife species. Ba Be is three linked lakes, which have a total length of 8km and a width of 400m. The Nang river is navigable for 23km between a point 4km above Cho Ra and the Dau Dang waterfall which consists of a series of spectacular cascades between sheer walls of rock. An interesting place is Puong Cave. The cave is about 30m high and 300m long and passes through a mountain. A river flows through the cave, making for an interesting boat trip. Ba Be is a home of the Tay minority, who live in stilt houses.
Ban Gioc waterfall is the largest in Vietnam, the water volume varies between dry and rainy season. The fall is very amazing from May to September. They have 3 levels, creating a sort of giant staircase. The falls are fed by the Quay Son river, which marks the border with China. It has the beautiful sight and shouldn't be missed if you have time to visit.
